LAHORE: All five goals by Saqib Khan Khakwani, including two in dying moments, helped Allied Bank edge out Telenor Shahsawars 5-4 in the semi-final at the Bank of Punjab Lahore Open Polo Championships here on Saturday.

Allied Bank will play the final on Sunday against Master Paints.

In a well-contested match, Allied Bank were trailing 3-4 in the mid of the fourth chukker but Saqib scored two back-to-back goals to furnish an exciting victory for his team. First, he converted a 40-yard penalty hit and then struck another goal on a field attempt.

Earlier, the teams were locked at 1-1 in the first chukker as Saqib scored his first, converting a 30-yard penalty hit. But Nafees Barry equalised in a field attempt.

The second chukker was fully dominated by Saqib, who pumped in two goals cashing in on a spot penalty and then firing a field goal to help his side lead 3-1.

But in the next chukker, the losers gave a tit-for-tat reply as Omar Asjad Malhi and Shah Qubilai Alam struck a goal each to make it 3-3.

In the beginning of the fourth chukker, Nafees’ field goal put his squad ahead 4-3 before Saqib registered the match-winning brace.
