NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned a “cowardly” attack by Taliban militants Tuesday on an army-run school in neighbouring Pakistan that killed at least 130 people — most of them children.
Modi branded the attack in the northwestern city of Peshawar “a senseless act of unspeakable brutality” and said India shares rival Pakistan's pain.
“Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack at a school in Peshawar,” Modi tweeted.
“It is a senseless act of unspeakable brutality that has claimed lives of the most innocent of human beings - young children in their school.
“My heart goes out to everyone who lost their loved ones today. We share their pain & offer our deepest condolences.”
Home Minister Rajnath Singh earlier said the attack, one of the bloodiest in Pakistan in recent years, exposed the “real face of terrorism”.
“I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on a school at Peshawar,” he tweeted.
“This dastardly & inhuman attack exposes the real face of terrorism. My heart goes out to the families of those children who got killed by the terrorists in Peshawar.”
Witnesses described how gunmen went from classroom to classroom, shooting children, after a huge blast shook the Army Public School.
The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack as retaliation for a major military offensive in the region.

These terrorists are truly cowards. If they were fighters they would have fought the armed forces, police, they would have tried to attack government institutions like parliament, supreme court, etc. But they won't because they are too weak for a real fight. Instead they kill people in places of worship, at markets and now most dastardly of all at a school. They don't deserve any sympathy other than a quick elimination.

You have 3 Consulates in the USA and 5 in Afghanistan, i wonder what are you doing in Afghanistan with such a big presences especially 2 near the Pakistani Border. Its a shame that what your soldiers can not do at the border, you have your RAW do it through your agents in Pakistan. Hope this horrible act, brings people in to action and they speak in unison that all such events big or small are totally unacceptable for any and all causes; and they want action to prevent them at all costs. I pray people stop explaining these instances away and demand unconditional cooperation across party lines and borders.
I hope people across Pakistan come out in peaceful protests demanding unconditional cooperation across "borders".
I hope people in mosques across Pakistan demand unconditional rejection of these atrocities and demand cooperation.

I saw the faces of my two little daughters in the young ones running and shuddered to think the unimaginable. Tears rolled down my eyes for those who were in the midst of this disaster. My condolences to the unconsolable parents whose children were lost to this senseless, cowardly and inhuman act of unspeakable horror. A dark day for all humanity.

After watching this incident I am feeling so sad and helpless.The mere thought of losing ur child is so horrific so I can't imagine what the parents of these children are going through. My heart goes to the families of the children, may God give them strength and give them justice. The culprits needs to be punished so that these families can get some justice. This needs to stop as no child should be treated this way.

@zahid - I am an Indian and I do agree that the number of people killed in Pakistan due to terrorism is much more than India. Both India and Pakistan face terrorism, most of which is developed in the Afghan-Pak region. It is even more important to not distinguish between terrorists. There cannot be good and bad terrorist. Only if this approach is taken and India and Pakistan jointly tackle both home grown terrorism and exported terrorism we as a region will never be safe. We are after all brothers who were separated. We have the same blood and forefathers and that is what people should understand. I have a few Pakistani friends and the hospitality I have received is unmatched. I have friends across atleast 30 different countries and none match the Pakistanis. This is because you are not outsiders but my own brothers. Its a few people who try to disturb the peace.
I am waiting for the time when we will be brothers again

Reading the comments on here, this is the first time I've felt like Indians really care about our innocent civilians killed.
