NEW YORK: Thousands of protesters marching in protest against police brutality shut down the Brooklyn Bridge, a major entry point into Manhattan on Saturday night.

They had marched from Washington Square Park to take to the streets in protest against police brutality and racial disparities in the justice system.

“We’re just tired of the injustice in the legal system,” said one protester chanting ‘no justice, no peace – no racist police’.

Meanwhile, a man is facing multiple charges after two New York Police officers were assaulted during protests across the Brooklyn Bridge.

The New York police says two officers were trying to stop protesters from throwing a garbage can on a police car when they were kicked in the head and face.

Eric Linsker, a resident of Brooklyn, was charged with two counts each of robbery and assault on a police officer, rioting, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and obstructing government administration, along with possessing marijuana.

Police say the officers were treated for bumps and bruises, including a broken nose, and released from the hospital.
