KARACHI, Sept 12: Justice (Retd) Haziqul Khairi, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, on Friday said that a day of truthfulness should be observed on the national level and the whole nation should speak truth on that day.

He was addressing a seminar organized by Shura Hamdard, Karachi, at a local hotel. He suggested the government announce the date to observe the day and watch what positive impressions it created in the nation’s mind.

The other speakers of the meeting supported the suggestion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Sadia Rashid, President Shura Hamdard Pakistan, said false statements and hypocrisy had been destroying our values.

She recalled that late Hakim Mohammad Said used to call upon people, specially the youth, to fight degradation of morality, impediments in the way of education, false politics, untruthfulness and frustrated leadership.

Dr Manzoor Ahmed was of the opinion that politicizing religion had left bad effects on the society . “We have installed religion on electric poles expelling it from our hearts, when it should rest in our hearts so that we could be able to eliminate lie from our society.”

Dr Muhammad Ali Siddiqui said writing truth had become much difficult in our society.

Syed Mustafa Ali Brelvi said the movements of Aligarh and Pakistan were based on truth, but after the creation of Pakistan when our great leaders had died, our political history became rampant with examples of untruthfulness, hypocrisy and opportunism, resulting in backwardness and poverty. “If political leaders, traders and bureaucrats adopt truthfulness, the situation can change”, he added.

Anwar Haq Siddiqui said those who spoke truth were able to form a free society.

“Backbiting, dishonestly, and deception are the offsprings of lie. A child personality is formed at the age of six, and if mothers # teach their children to be truthful, a trend of speaking truth would be established in our society”.

Qutubuddin Aziz, highlighting the importance of truth with reference to the personality of the Quaid- i- Azam, said that examples of truthfulness and uprightness in personal and national matters could be seen in the life of the Quaid. He said false statement for personal gains were totally wrong and harmful.

Dr Syed Hamid Mahmood said the progress of man is based on truth and that foundation of Islam stands on truthfulness.

Dr Mirza Arshad Ali Beg, Muhammad Saeed Siddiqui, Muhammad Ahmed Sabzwari, Sarshar Siddiqui, Syed Amjad Ali Jaffery and Khalid Ikramullah also spoke on the occasion.—PPI
