QUETTA: Militants killed a policeman and injured another two in Balochistan's troubled Khuzdar district on Saturday morning.

Muhammad Ibrahim, a police official told Dawn that militants opened fire at a police check post at Zero Point Khuzdar killing one personnel on the spot. Injured policemen were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment.

Ibrahim stated that the assailants sped away on their motorcycles after the attack.

Police and Frontier Crops personnel reached the spot and cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.

Militants, in separate incident, targeted a police mobile with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

Imran Qureshi, the Superintendent of Police Sariab told Dawn that militants targeted the police mobile in Hazar Ganji area of the city.

He however said that the police mobile narrowly escaped the blast and added that nobody was hurt in the attack.

There was no claim of responsibility for both attacks.

Balochistan has been experiencing incident violence and targeted killings since more than a decade. The largest province of the country by area, is home to a low-level insurgency by ethnic Baloch separatists. Al Qaeda-linked militants also operate in the region.

The province shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
