RAWALPINDI: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has sought a no-objection certificate (NoC) from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to install 18 tubewells on the greenbelt along Islamabad Expressway.

The move is aimed at supplying water to three union councils – Dhoke Chaudhrian, Morgah and Kotha Kallan – falling in Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s NA-52 constituency.

A senior official of Wasa told Dawn that the agency had written a letter to the CDA seeking NoC because the area where it would install the tubewells fell under the administrative control of the CDA.

The Wasa official said work on the tubewells would start as soon as the CDA issued the NoC. He said the proposed tubewells would be installed near Khanna Bridge.

When contacted, Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said the agency had sent the request for the NoC to the CDA through Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed.

He said the agency would start work soon after getting the NoC.

“It is not a new thing as civic agencies install tubewells in other areas to supply water but they require prior permission from the relevant civic body,” he said.
