All about puppets

THIS is regarding the cover story “All about puppets” compiled by Benazir Raz Soomro (YW, November 15, 2014). It was a nice cover story and, to be honest, the topic was very well-covered with various kinds of puppets and techniques being used in their making as well as in playing.

With technology and other advancements, puppetry has almost vanished from the scene. So I appreciate the writer for coming up with such a nice topic which kids of this age are less familiar with.

THE cover story on “All about puppets” compiled by Benazir Raz Soomro was interesting. Puppets are not common these days. Children are more engrossed in video games and social networking apps on their cellphones than physical games or entertainment like puppet shows. They don’t even know what puppetry is.

The cover was a nice reminder to kids that puppets do have their significance in our culture, and also all over the world. I remember, when I was a kid, there used to be held a puppet show in our village, once in couple of months, and I loved to go there with other kids of my age and see the show. But sadly, today kids are too busy with their gadgets.

Horrible illustrations

THIS is regarding the illustrations made by Ghazala. I would like to say that whatever the story is, if the illustration is not well made it takes away all the interest from reading the story. These illustrations are not visually attractive — the facial expressions are always same, and often they match with the illustrator’s previous work.

I understand that they cannot be different always, but, they are too cluttered almost the same. It is my request to the illustrator as well as the YW team to make illustrations visually nice and attractive.

Skin care is a must in winter!

THIS is regarding the article “Skin care is a must in winter!” by Wajeeha Rehan (YW, November 15, 2014). It was a timely article and I liked it very much.

I agree with the writer in saying that a healthy diet along with skin care is a must to maintain dry skin in winter.

We live in a mountainous region where we have dry spells more than other regions of Sindh, therefore in winter our skin literally ‘cracks’ and it hurts too much. I thank the writer for writing a very nice article and giving tips on skin care.
