KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10: After Singapore, it is Malaysia who have invited hockey teams of India and Pakistan to play Tests or friendlies here to break the ice between the two Asian powerhouses.

In turn, Malaysia wants its national hockey team to be given a similar chance in the sub-continent.

“We are interested in good hockey and when India and Pakistan play a match it is the hockey at its best,” P.Alegandra, deputy chairman Malaysia Hockey Federation (MHF) said.

“If these teams play Test or friendly matches in Malaysia, we in turn should also have an opportunity to play equal number of matches in India and/or Pakistan,” said Alegandra who is also secretary General of Asian Hockey Federation (AHF).

The AHF would meet on Sept 27 here, on sidelines of Sept 21-28 Asia Cup tournament, to evaluate progress and discuss future agenda of the organisation.

India and Pakistan hockey officials are also scheduled to discuss revival of bilateral hockey matches.

“The main focus would be on promoting women’s hockey in Asia,” Algendra said, adding that a task force, would propose a plan in this regard.—PPI
