DawnNews vehicle attacked in Islamabad, cameraman injured

ISLAMABAD: A DawnNews vehicle was attacked in the federal capital on Sunday night, leaving one cameraman seriously injured.

Two cracker explosions took place near Faizabad pull where the van was targeted. The attack was carried out by two men on a motorcycle.

The attack occurred after media groups were returning from covering the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) gathering in Islamabad.

The explosion also burst one of the tyres' of the vehicle. Police reached the site of the blasts soon after the incident.

The explosions took place despite assurances that security would be tight in the federal capital.

SSP Islamabad Asmatullah Junejo said that the perpetrators of the attack will be arrested and punished.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack on the news team and called for the arrest of the perpetrators.

The attack has also been condemned by various political leaders including Information Minister Pervez Rashid, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, MQM's Babar Ghauri and PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira.

Crackers which can burst Tyre or marks hole in metal can't be termed as normal crackers. May be we can use term "Crude bomb" for that. Anyway, this type of attack on media should deserve high condemnation..

Attack on the dawn vehicle with crude bomb is condemned in strong words throughout in Pakistan. At the same time the threat on implementation on C by PTI after 16 Dec may also be considered seriously by the govt in the large interest of nation and the process of negotiation be started sooner the better.

The same politicians who try to gag the press need them and talk about their independence the moment they are out of power. A person disagreeing with You is doing a favour to you, giving an opportunity to see things and life from another angle. There might be many out there who think alike. He could have kept quiet, gone underground and started guerilla war (physical and verbose through online media, internet, building public opinion) and before You realise it is a force to reckon with, enough to remove You from seat of power. Learn to respect diversity and freedom of Press. They disseminate information, educate us and build public opinion and also give us a chance to vent our frustration, negative built-up. Think!

There is warrant of arrest against Mr. Imran Khan and his supporters yet he is free to continue demonstration against government. What this tells us? Government is impotent to enforce laws and there will be more crimes such as attack on Dawn vehicle.

@sulman parsi : Plan C will cause much greater damage to Pakistan than attack with a crude bomb on Dawn vehicle. When a political leader takes laws in his own hands, threatening closure of Pakistanis cities plus there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest and and he is allowed to continue his demonstration and nothing is being done to stop him, the ordinary man, Machhli Wala (Fish seller) takes it for granted, nothing will happen to him if he bombs anyone's vehicle. It is just because Pakistan has two justice system, one for Paisa Wala (rich) and one for Paisa Mangney Wala (Beggar).

This attach seems like a message for any meida group that do not follow govt. guidelines, would be tought a lesson. Almost same place there ARY van was attached by Hanif Abassi' s followers. Is anyone going to take notice that Dawn news was shut down in most parts of Islamabad, yesterday.
