Sugar monopolies

Published November 25, 2014

REFERENCE Shahryar Khan Baseer’s aticle ‘Sugar monopolies’ (Nov 16): I only want to reinforce and extend his point of view by saying that this is the result of a vicious collusion between the powerful and the influential.

The sugar mafia consists mainly of politicians, whether in power or not. They work out and implement policies which are in their favour, no matter how hard they hit their people.

Pakistan is a safe haven for these mafias as there is no mechanism to check them, or if there is any, then there is no culture of implementing it for the sake of justice and relief to its masses.

The silver lining in the dark cloud is that the Islamabad sit-ins have imparted awareness of their rights to the people. It is time we rejected hereditary polititions and searched for a real and true leadership.
