RAWALPINDI: The Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) has begun work on a Rs25 million project to expand 6th Road. The project is expected to resolve traffic problems in the area.

Rawal Town Administrator Imran Qureshi told Dawn that the Punjab government provided funds to expand the width of the road from 36 feet to 60 feet to improve the flow of traffic.

He said work has already begun at Siddiqui Chowk and is likely to be completed in one month.

“There are many educational institutions on this road which is why there is so much traffic during school and college hours,” he added.

Apart from this, the administrator said RTMA will start projects to improve roads in other parts of the city. He said the civic body has allocated more than Rs300 million for development schemes in the current fiscal year.

He said the civic body has also begun removing encroachments from main bazaars and roads to improve traffic flow.

He said the repair of roads, streets and footpaths would be started in the city areas after the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) next month. “Before the main mourning procession in the city, the civic body had been asked to start filling potholes on main roads,” he said.
