VARIOUS public and private sector universities collect a handsome amount from students under the account of students welfare fund every year. The amount so collected, along with the fees, is estimated to be in the millions.

But how and where this amount is spent by the university management has become debatable.

I am a student of National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, whose management also collects an appropriate amount in the name of students welfare fund, but it is not spent on students to meet their needs. The poor situation of computer labs, media lab, Internet availability, library, class rooms are ample evidence of disability of the management.

Where is the money being spent if not on the needs of students? I appeal to President Mamnoon Hussain, the chancellor of the university, to look into the matter. I also request to chairman of the board of governors (BoG), Gen Raheel Shareef, to raise this issue at the BoG meetings and take effective steps to modernise the university with the latest equipment in all sectors because students are the pillars of the nation’s future. If they will not be educated with modern education, how will they handle the country tomorrow effectively?
