GUJRAT: Extortionists have demanded Rs5 million from a Norwegian national of Pakistani origin who has reported to the police about constant threats to him and his family.

Chaudhry Nazeer Ahmed, who had settled in Norway more than three decades ago and arrived in Kunjah, Gujrat, a few weeks ago, told the police that four unidentified car riders stopped his vehicle and hurled life threats on him while demanding Rs5 million. He said his family members were receiving threatening calls on telephone for the last few days.

The Kunjah police have registered a case against four men under sections 365 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 25D Telegraph Act on the report of the Norwegian national.

DRIVE: The police have stepped up a campaign against violation of ban on using loudspeaker and registered a case against many prayer leaders under the Amplifier Act.

The Civil Lines police have registered five cases against prayer leaders while the Karianwala, Kharian Saddar and Sara-i-Alamgir Saddar police registered cases against seven prayer leaders.

ROBBERIES: Armed men looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs1.2 million from a house in city’s B-Division police precinct.

Robbers broke into the house of Asif Shah along Shahdaula Road and held up family members. They took away 20 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs100,000 in cash, a mobile phone set and other valuables. Five robbers barged into the house of Arshad at Mohallah Muhammadnagar of Tanda and took away eight-tola gold ornaments, Rs20,000 in cash and a rifle.

The police have registered a case and started investigation.
