FAISALABAD, Sept 8: The mastermind behind the dacoity-cum-murder case has reportedly left Pakistan with a major share of the booty while the other accused have taken shelter in interior Sindh.

A senior police officer on the condition of anonymity told Dawn on Monday that police had arrested Shaikh Jameel, the brother of main accused Shaikh Naeem, from his Madina Town house. Jameel in preliminary interrogation told the police that Naeem had already got confirmed his ticket for some Arab state and left the country after the incident.

On the other hand, the police claimed that Naeem was still in Pakistan most probably in Karachi, and efforts were being made to arrest him. Immigration officials had been asked to check his attempt to flee abroad.

The police team, headed by the Gulberg DSP, which had gone to Karachi for the arrest of Naeem and accomplices also returned unsuccessful.

The police source said it would be difficult for the Faisalabad police to arrest the ‘suspects’ from Karachi or interior Sindh as they had succeeded in taking a shelter with an ethnic group there.

The police have so far succeeded in arresting five suspects — Umer and Zahid of Karachi and Jawed Anjum of Faisalabad, Naeem’s wife Razia and sister-in-law Fatima.

Some nine days ago, six gangsters had killed two prize bond dealers, Aslam and Dilshad, and their two guards and looted prize bonds worth Rs20 million at Sanatpura.
