SUKKUR, Sept 8: The district and Taluka governments have shown their incapability for paying honoraria to the councillors for one year as directed earlier by the Sindh chief minister.

Last month the Sindh chief minister had directed the district, Taluka and union councils to pay honoraria to councillors from their own resources. But almost all the district governments of the Sindh province have shown their incapability regarding the payment of honoraria.

Informed sources said that most of the district and Taluka governments of Sindh, including Khairpur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Larkana, had refused to pay honoraria to councillors because they did not have sufficient funds to meet the requirement.

They have demanded the Sindh government to provide grant for the purpose till the new budget is announced.

The district Nazim, Sukkur, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, said that when the Sindh chief minister issued these directives almost all the district governments had already announced their budget, and no funds could be allocated for honoraria to councillors at the time.

He said that he had informed about the situation to the chief minister and during his recent visit to the Public School at Sukkur, he had asked the provincial government to provide funds for the purpose for a period of one year, so that the long-standing demand of the councillors could be fulfilled.

He hoped that the Sindh chief minister would shortly make an announcement regarding it.
