Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan have taken to Twitter to clear the air on reports which fueled the controversy involving Jaya Bachchan's criticism of Happy New Year.

In recent news reports, the Indian media took comments made by Jaya Bachchan out of context and claimed she insulted Happy New Year, the very movie her son, Abhishek Bachchan was a part of.

According to NDTV.com, Mrs. Bachchan criticised the movie at the Mumbai Literature Festival: “HNY is the most nonsensical film I’ve seen in recent years. I said that to the film’s lead actor as well. I watched it only because Abhishek was part of it. I told him he’s a great actor if he can act stupid in front of the camera like that."

This was followed by a flurry of reported rebuttals by Shahrukh Khan (Read: Amar Akbar Anthony was also nonsensical: SRK to Jaya Bachchan) as well as reports that Amitabh Bachchan was embarrassed by his wife's comments and the Bachchan clan had gone to SRK's house to apologise to the superstar.

There was also a report which suggested that Shahrukh had "rejected" the Bachchan family's apology.

However, Amitabh Bachchan and SRK have had enough and took to Twitter to clear the air.

Mr. Bachchan tweeted the aptly titled article 'The twists, turns and half truths that maketh controversy', in which journalist Anil Dharkar sheds some light on the actual events: "Her remarks about Happy New Year being 'nonsensical', when taken out of context, sound like harsh criticism of the film, but when quoted in full show that she was talking of two kinds of cinema that exist in India - those based on literary works and those that are pure entertainment. She enjoyed both these kinds of films, she said (as all those who heard the discussion would attest). An example she gave of the latter was of Amar, Akbar, Anthony, a film she said she enjoyed immensely, as much as she did Happy New Year. In fact, she said, she complimented her son Abhishek for his role, because it's something she couldn't have done herself. Those who take Jaya Bachchan's remark out of context do a disservice to her."
