VEHARI: A young couple and their suckling died on Wednesday after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a tractor-trolley near Chak 24-WB on Vehari-Khanewal road in Saddar police limits.

Police said Asif, 30, along with his wife Sidra, 25, and four-month child Asad, was going to Chak 24-WB after shopping when a tractor-trolley hit their bike. As a result, all of them died on the spot.

Saddar police Station House Officer Chaudhry Afzal told Dawn the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the tractor because of over speed.

He said the driver fled the scene after the accident.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives of the deceased after their autopsy at the district headquarters hospital (DHQ).

PROBE: The district coordination officer ordered a probe into alleged torture of a Class VI student by two schoolteachers on Wednesday.

Baber Husain said his son Sheharyar, a student of the Government Boys High School, 9-11/WB village, was subjected to severe torture by teachers Mushtaq Ahmed and Ubaidullah.

Husain, in his complaint to the district coordination officer, alleged the teachers thrashed his son with sticks and the medical report confirmed the torture.

DCO Jawad Akram ordered an inquiry into the incident, appointing District Monitring officer (DMO) Mubashar to conduct the probe.

Headmaster Rai Muhammad Hanif was not available for comments, while both the teachers denied the allegation.
