LAHORE: A team of the City District Government of Lahore on Saturday raided a village near Ring Road and got two people arrested for producing cooking oil through burning bones and fat of dead animals including horses and donkeys.

The team led by Badami Bagh Bus Terminal administrator Ms Ayesha Mumtaz also recovered utensils and other material being used in preparing oil. There were reports about the involvement of some people in selling dead animals’ meat in various parts of the city.

“Although I was not a team member, Ms Mumtaz told me that the Lahore DCO asked her to visit Khokhar village, around two kilometres away from Badami Bagh, near Ring Road and check a premises being used for such purposes. She conducted a raid and arrested the suspects, who were about to start day’s work,” CDGL’s Livestock District Officer Ghulam Husain told Dawn.

He said the team also seized bones and fat of dead animals besides recovering some utensils. Mr Hussain further said the team found a dead horse and buried it.

PRICES: Price control magistrates on Saturday arrested 11 shopkeepers for hoarding and overcharging. They also imposed heavy fines on several others.

Meanwhile, a spokesman claimed the CDGL teams completed dengue surveillance of over 41,000 houses in the city.
