SWABI: Unidentified gunmen on Thursday kidnapped Professor Qaim Ahmad of the Government Degree College, Shewa in Razaar tehsil.

A member of the college staff told Dawn on Friday that the teacher was kidnapped in Kulalu area when he was on the way to home in Sheikh Jana area after duty hours.

On Friday, the college’s teaching staff boycotted classes against the abduction and demanded security for themselves.

Also, the college’s students stepped out and blocked the major Swabi-Mardan Road in Shewa Adda area suspending traffic for around three hours.

The protesters shouted slogans against the police and demanded the immediate recovery of Professor Qaim and security for the college’s staff.

They urged health minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, who belongs to the area, to step in and play the due role in the teacher’s recovery.

Later, the DSP of Razaar tehsil showed up and promised the abductee’s recovery in three days.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after getting the assurance.

KIDNAPPED MAN RECOVERED: The police on Friday recovered a kidnapped person and arrested four kidnappers.

Gul Bacha, a resident of Gohati village in Swabi, was abducted 12 days ago.

A day ago, the police had also recovered a person kidnapped from Kotha village for ransom.

Acting district police officer Nisar Khan told a news conference here that Gul Bacha was kidnapped on October 13 when he was on his way to Gadoon Estate in his car after withdrawing Rs0.3 million and $3000 from a local bank.

He said the kidnappers contacted the abeductee’s son over the telephone and demanded ransom for his father’s safe release.

Nisar Khan said on a tip-off, the police raided Ismiala area and recovered the abductee, his car and snatched money besides arresting kidnappers, including Qasid Ali and Afsar Ali of Ismaila village, and Mohammad Ali of Talagang and Mohammad Khan of Islamabad.

He said the police had registered a case against the arrested men and began investigation.
