ISLAMABAD: Karachi-based Syed Zohair Raza on Thursday made major upset by eliminating eighth seed Mohammad Mudasir of Jehani in a well-contested three-set men’s single match at the fourth edition of the Syed Tajammul Abbas Memorial National Ranking Tennis Tournament here at the PTF Tennis Complex.

In the same category, Zohair Raza defeated Mudasir 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 with all the other seeded players including Aqeel Khan, Mohammad Abid, Shahzad Khan, Heera Ashiq, Usman Rafiq, Sanaullah Khan and Ahmed Chaudhry qualifying for second round having beaten their respective opponents in straight sets.

In the boys’ U-18 event, Mir Shahzaib Ahmed made another upset by beating 6th seed Ilham Khan in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 with all the other seeded players moving into the second round.

Also, top seed Syed Nofil Kaleem eliminated Zeeshan Javed without conceding a single game in both sets while third seed Mohammad Muzamil got tough resistance from Haris Irfan-ul-Haq in three-set match.
