LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned young cricketer Umaid Asif for one year after he tested positive in a random doping test condu­ct­ed during the National T20 Cup held in Lahore last year.

Umaid, who represented Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) in that tournament, underwent the dope test on Sept 29 in a match against State Bank of Pakistan, a PCB press release stated.

“After conducting detailed personal hearings, the Anti-Doping Tribunal found Umaid Asif guilty of violating Article 2.1 of the PCB’s Anti-Doping Code (presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers in a cricketer’s sample) and imposed a one-year ban on him which will be deemed to have commenced from Jan 23, 2014.

“The results obtained by Umaid’s individual performance in the match (KRL v SBP) and other matches that he participated in during the Faysal Bank T20, 2013 will be disqualified,” the release concluded.
