LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday sent Mohammad Khan, the security guard of Abdul Qadir Gilani, on a 14-day judicial remand for allegedly killing a youth.

ATC Judge Rai Ayub Khan heard the case today pertaining to the shooting of 23-year-old Malik Tahir, which involves the son of former PM Yousaf Raza Gillani's along with six guards.

During the hearing, police requested the court to send the suspect on a 10-day judicial remand, following which the court sent him on a two-week judicial remand. Arrangements for the identification parade of the suspect wiill be made in the jail, police added.

Tahir was killed after a guard fired on him following a quarrel near PTCL Exchange on Mian Ghazi Road, Defence, on Wednesday evening.

The guard had stated before the police that the motorcyclists were repeatedly overtaking squad vehicles of Qadir Gilani which irritated the guards and he opened fire with an intention to shoot the victim in his foot.

The victim’s family has urged the police to arrest Abdul Qadir Gilani. Police investigators had been reluctant to detain Qadir Gilani but included him in the course of the investigation keeping in view the sensitivity of the case.

“My primary demand to the Punjab government and police authorities is to arrest Qadir Gilani who was travelling along with his security guards at the time of shooting and escaped instantly from the crime scene. The shooting took place at [Gilani’s] behest,” Malik Tanveer, the father of victim Tahir had said.
