LAHORE, Sept 2: The Punjab Election Authority has decided to hold Data Ganj Bakhsh Town union council members voting on the recall motion against Town Nazim Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan on Sept 30.

The authority restrained him from performing his duty as Nazim till voting.

Authority member Chaudhry Shaukat Ali issued the notification, stopping Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan from performing his functions as Town Nazim under the Punjab Local Government (Recall motions against Nazims and Naib Nazims) Rules, 2003, on Tuesday.

Subsequent to the PEA’s notification, Punjab Local Government Secretary Naguibullah Malik withdrew his notification of Aug 16 through which he had restrained Mr Hassaan from performing his functions as Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Nazim, and authorized District Coordination Officer Khalid Sultan to perform his duty till further orders.

The Punjab Election Authority and Local Government Secretary issued the notifications fixing the date of voting on recall motion against Mr Hassaan, restraining him from exercising the powers of Town Nazim and nominating the Lahore DCO as acting Town Nazim a day before the commencement of hearing of his writ petition challenging the Punjab Local Government secretary’s Aug 16 notification.
