LAHORE: A group of 84 students from the Government College University, Lahore, spent a day visiting various military units and formations of the Pakistan Army at Lahore Garrison.

According to a press release, the daylong programme, ‘Know Your Army’, was specifically organised to create awareness among students about routine functioning of the army, its organisation and defence capability. The programme was initiated on the instructions of Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif.

Earlier, students from FC College, Kinnaird College and Punjab University spent a day with the troops.

The programme started with a wreath-laying ceremony and prayer at Yadgar-i-Shuhada, followed by a demonstration by the Quick Response Force. The students also visited an infantry and armour battalion and witnessed arms and equipment display.

The programme culminated with a flag-lowering ceremony at Ganda Singhwala border checkpost, Kasur. The students evinced keen interest and commended the sacrifices rendered by army officers and troops in the ongoing war against terrorists.
