KARACHI, Sept 2: The beach, devastated due to oil spillage from the ship, will be cleaned and opened for general public after two months.

This was decided at a meeting of the coordination committee, set up under the directives of President Musharraf, which met here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Secretary Syed Anwar Haider.

The meeting was informed that no oil spillage was reported from Tasman Spirit since Monday.

Possible methods for beach cleaning were discussed and the need of immediate medical check up of people living in the affected areas was stressed.

It was decided that two methods would be adopted to clean the affected parts of the beach and divided it in two portions from Village Restaurant to Kablai Khan and from Shireen Jinnah Colony to Karachi Port Trust.

The representative of health department informed that in collaboration with the Defence Housing Authority, as many as 400 residents would be surveyed from Sept 3, to ascertain any health problem being faced by the people living near the beach.

Meanwhile, six medical teams were formed to undertake medical check up.—APP
