HYDERABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday observed 26th anniversary of the Hyderabad carnage by holding a general workers’ meeting in Pucca Qila and paying homage to the victims.

Speaking at the meeting, MQM coordination committee deputy convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui recalled that on Sept 30,1988 hatred and barbarism was in evidence in the streets of Hyderabad and several hundred people were massacred in a matter of hours.

He said the MQM had not forgotten such days. “Everyone knows the culprits who had let loose the reign of terror,” he said, and regretted that the culprits were being regarded as nationalist leaders.

He claimed that when the PPP sought votes in 1988, the Urdu-speaking people voted for it despite the carnage although they knew they would be ditched, and not loved.
