ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Tuesday decided to hold intra-party polls for electing officials at district and divisional levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to a press release issued here, former President and Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari has constituted a three-member committee to work out a plan of action into this matter.

Senator Farhatullah Babar, Professor N D Khan and Aurangzeb S Burki have been notified as members of the committee and had been given task to report on the plan of action for intra-party elections within three weeks.

The central leadership of PPP had earlier in June rejected recommendations of the provincial chapter of the party for holding intra-party elections and described it inapplicable because it would set a precedent for the rest of provinces and the centre.

The ongoing confrontation between the ruling PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) later became another reason for the PPP leadership to scrap its plan of holding intra-party elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The party then reportedly selected office-bearers for the bodies at division, district and tehsil levels.
