KARACHI, Sept 2: City Government has established well-equipped computer laboratories, worth Rs1.8 million, in 18 secondary schools in the city.

This was stated by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan while speaking at inauguration ceremony of a computer laboratory in the Government Girls Secondary School Fatima Jinnah, Nishtar Road, on Tuesday.

He maintained that environment in Karachi’s schools had been improved and now it was responsibility of teachers to raise education standard and added that public schools should show at least 50 per cent results in examinations, if not 100 per cent, to restore people’s confidence in government schools.

Pakistan was the fort of Islam, he said and added that there was a need to open Karachi port for resource-rich Central Asian states, to bring these closer to the country.

Meanwhile, the City Nazim, speaking at the ceremony of renovation of class rooms and inauguration of nursery classes at the Government Boys Secondary School, Jacob Line, said that funds had been provided to school heads to improve environment of schools.

He maintained that it should not be expected that people would send their children to unhealthy environment and stressed upon heads of school to spend the funds honestly, besides improving the standard of education.

The children should be prepared for international competition at the schools and awareness be created about Pakistan ideology, he said.

He remarked that it was a good sign that people had started admitting their children in public schools instead of private ones and added that furniture and other equipment was being provided to government schools.—PPI
