SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 1: The district prison staff foiled an attempt to supply the contraband in jail on Monday.

Reports said Ashfaq came to the prison to see his brother, Mushtaq. On checking, opium was recovered from his possession. The contraband was concealed in cigarette packets.

Ashfaq was handed over to the B Division police. The jail superintendent told newsmen there were more than 2,000 prisoners, and almost 400 to 500 visitors came there daily to see them. He said it was very difficult to check each and every visitor.

He said some visitors brought fruit particularly melons, water melons, mangoes and other eatable items. He claimed the fruit were sometime injected with drugs. There were no instruments in the jail to check such fruit. — Correspondent
