KARACHI: A worker of the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek recently released from prison was shot dead in the New Karachi Industrial Area on Thursday, Gabol Town police said.

They added that Meraj Mohammed, 38, was riding a motorcycle when gunmen on another motorcycle attacked him in Sector-16-B. He sustained critical wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A Gabol Town police official said there were three criminal cases against the victim filed at their police station and he was released from jail recently.

However, a spokesperson for the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek said the deceased was their worker and it was an act of targeted killing. He added that the suspects intercepted Meraj Qadri and targeted him after a brief chat.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man was shot dead in Orangi Town on Thursday, Pirabad police said. Raja Riaz was cleaning his taxi outside his home near Mohammadi mosque in Sector-4-A when gunmen riding another motorcycle attacked and killed him.
