Protesting parties limiting country's development, says PM Nawaz

ATTOCK: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that protesting parties are creating impediments in the way of development of the country.
Inaugurating a well of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) at Soghri, Attock, he said Chinese president Xi Jinping had to visit Pakistan to sign a number of agreements, especially on electricity production, but that his trip was postponed due to the acts of a few thousand protesters.
He said the government has demonstrated patience and tolerance in the current political crisis. "It is not difficult to get roads cleared from protesters," he said. Nawaz added that the protesting parties should also demonstrate the same spirit and refrain from creating obstacles in the country's development as the entire nation wants improvement.
The postponement of the official visit of the Chinese president has disappointed the Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET), which was hoping to get funds for different projects after inaugurating the first solar tubewell of the federal capital during his visit.

China had also announced $32 billion to be invested in next seven years in various Pakistani projects of infrastructure building and power sector.
Regarding the energy crisis in the country, the premier said the government is giving foremost priority to elimination of load shedding from the country.
"We have chalked out programs which will end load shedding in the next three to four years. He pointed out that the elimination of load shedding is necessary in order to promote industrial growth and alleviate poverty and unemployment."
Separately, Nawaz said he had been elected by 180 million people and the whole Parliament stands united for continuation of the present system.
The premier has stated in unequivocal terms that he will not resign on the desire of merely a few thousand people.
About the discovery of oil and gas well in Soghri, the PM said it will help save millions of dollars in foreign exchange besides mitigating the energy crisis.

The simple reason is that this government is not there to govern. They are there to make as much money as possible as they know they have only got 5 years. I always wished for our leaders to be highly educated. We have had none after Jinnah. When I look around I see a number of leaders with excellent educational track record (Obama is a Harvard graduate, Manmohan Singh has a Doctorate from Oxford University, Jinnah was educated at Lincoln's Inn in London), why do we not have highly educated people in politics in Pakistan. I guess the reason is that politics in Pakistan is a business (and for that matter a dirty business) and requires everyone to be completely corrupt and without any morals, which an educated person would find very difficult to deal with. Most of Pakistan is illiterate so, illiterates rule Pakistan. It does make sense, doesn't it?

Nawaz Sharif is right.. Pakistan needs more yellow cabs, buses, flyovers, laptops and tandoori projects to become an economic power!
Shame on people for standing up against such an innovative PM. We need more tandoori projects and laptops asap!

@kashif: I will be happy to see Nawaz Sharif go but who should replace him? Imran Khan the protester, the raider of Parliament House and Prime Minister's House, the Dharna man, the Inqelabi, the sit-in man, the road blocker, the preacher of civil disobedience and pay no taxes. The Founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah never did all these uncivilized acts. May be this is time to bring back Pervez Musharraf to save the sinking boat of Pakistan.

@MSA .NS is touring the flood affected areas to assess the damage of the floods and the rescue operations. Two million Pakistanis have been affected by the floods and billion of dollars property has been damaged. PM is in a catch 22, if he tours the flood affected areas, according to you he is playing politics. On the other hand if he does not tour the areas, people like you will complain that he does not care about his countrymen. He has been out there to raise the spirits of the people who have lost everything in the floods and to provide assistance. FYI these torrential rains took place in the Indian controlled Kashmir and are not preventable. Did PTI/PAT leaders tour the flood areas or raised funds to help the needy people of Pakistan? of course not. Mr. Khan has announced that he is not going to pay the electric bill? Electric bills are not taxes, they are the charges for,the use of electricity. PTI/PAT leaders are doing a great damage and disservice to the country by these irresponsible statements. Actions of these few thousand people will put the country on the brink of a financial disaster and if we don't stop them, everybody will drown for sure.

Like most in the political class, PM remains obsessed with 'saving foreign exchange' as if it is the most obvious economic goal. It is not - otherwise imports should be brought down to zero. How can the 'dharnas' make any difference to ending load-shedding when the PM himself says it will take several years? The only way that a serious dent can be made in the short run is to exceed the achievement of Bangladesh in installing solar energy for low consumption - 80,000 a month and starting with those who have been made to suffer permanent load shedding. If hot air of speeches could be made productive we would have no energy 'crisis.'

First get the members of parliament to declare their assets and pay taxes. That will be development - We rather forget anything from outside till the house is in order. Time has come to take the moral high ground - days of VIPs getting away with murder are coming to an end.
