LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Sirajul Haq says the opposition Jirga has given its suggestions to the government and the protesting parties but neither side has responded so far.

Talking to the media at the funeral prayers for JI member Yousaf Khan on Monday, he said the Jirga wanted all the three parties in the political dispute to sort out their issues through dialogue. He said even if the Islamabad sit-in continued for another 100 days, no harm should come to the Constitution and the democratic system.

"We don't want anybody to add fuel to the fire," he said. "We are not a party to the issue. Instead, we are striving to find a solution." He said the situation was becoming more complicated with every passing day and all the three parties were in trouble.

MOTION: The JI has submitted an adjournment motion to the Punjab Assembly Secretariat against what it calls poor arrangements to handle floods.

The motion was submitted by JI's lone representative in the provincial house, Dr Waseem Akhtar, here on Monday.

Recalling the 2010 floods that had devastated southern Punjab, Akhtar said the government had planned nothing this time as flood waters submerged the region once again, exposing poor arrangements made to save lives and properties of people.
