KARACHI: Commis­sioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has assured Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of his administration’s full support and cooperation in the conduct of Regional National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament which explodes into action at National Stadium from Sept 17.

“Local administration will provide foolproof security and other support in making this event a great success,” he told a PCB delegation which called on him in his office on Friday.

The delegation included former Pakistan captain and director domestic operations Intikhab Alam, Senior manager Arshad Khan National Stadium, Director Sports Asif Azeem and other officials.

Shoaib, who remained Sindh Secretary Sports for over three years, said he is fully aware of the importance of the mega event as it features the country’s top players.

He said that it is great honour for the metropolis that it would be staging this event and expressed hope that it will attract large crowds. He assured that the best facilities will be provided to the spectators.

The commissioner said all the security agencies including Rangers, police and other civic agencies are being alerted for the occasion and announced that a key meeting to review the arrangements will be held on Monday. Shoaib also consented to be the chairman of the organising committee of the T20 Cup.

Former skipper Intikhab informed the commissioner about the details of the event and highlighted its importance. He said Twenty20 is the most popular format in world cricket and the spectators will fully enjoy the upcoming event.
