KARACHI: Two brothers and their employee were gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants in Korangi on Wednesday when they resisted their attempt to rob them, according to Awami Colony police.

The victims were sitting at their milk shop in Kroangi-5, J-1 area when they were attacked, said Awami Colony SHO, Ahmed Butt.

Mohammad Saleem, 40, his brother Mohammad Arshad, 33, and their employee Irfan who had suffered critical injuries arrived in JPMC where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the hospital’s emergency department.

DIG East, Munir Ahmed Shaikh, said: “The triple murder do not appear to be linked to the apparent botched robbery”.

A police source conjectured the murders might be an offshoot of a simmering dispute between three parties over a mosque in the area which the victims were supporting financially.

Young man shot dead

A young man was gunned when he was standing outside his home in Lashari Mohalla in Pak Colony on Wednesday evening, according to police.

Ashraf Lashari appeared to be the latest victim of a rivalry, which claimed life f his brother, Akram Lashari, a few years ago, said SP Site, Fida Hussain Janwari.

He said that last month, a man and his son were shot dead in the same area and the latest killing appeared to be an offshoot of the same rivalry between Magsi and Lashari tribes.

Passerby killed in crossfire

A passerby was shot dead and another was hurt when they were caught up in crossfire between two rival gangs in crime-infested Lyari on Wednesday.

Akram Jingu, rickshaw driver, and Bilal Rahim, 25, suffered serious wounds when they were caught up in the crossfire on Mewashah road near Lahooti medical store. They were taken to Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors declared Akram as dead, said Kalakot SHO, Haji Sanaullah.

MQM worker gunned down

Coordinator of a senior MQM leader was shot dead in Joharabad and Surjani Town on Wednesday evening, according to police officials.

Salman Kazmi, coordinator of MQM’s senior leader Hyder Abbas Rizvi, was gunned down in Nasirabad area.

According to SSP Central Noman Siddiqi, two suspects stormed a barber’s shop apparently with the intention of robbery where Kazmi was present. When the suspects tried to rob him, he took out his pistol and opened fire, he said.

The suspects also opened fire on him and fled. He sustained bullet injuries to his chest and died while being taken to a hospital.

The police were probing the incident, said the official.
