Muttahida’s woman MPA resigns, quits party

KARACHI: A female member of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement announced on Monday quitting the assembly membership as well as the party.

Irum Azeem Farooque used Twitter to announce her decision, saying she could not work with “opportunist people who are destroying my party”.

“Just to let everyone know that I have finally resigned from my post and also leaving the party for good,” she tweeted.

However, Ms Farooque said that she would remain loyal to MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

“Seat was not my priority, respect was..Bhai gave me all the respect, I love this party but can’t take the stress anymore,” read another tweet.

Ms Farooque was elected on a reserved seat for women after the May 2013 general elections. She headed the public relations wing of the MQM for years. Her family lives in the United States and she shuttled between Karachi and Houston frequently.

A spokesperson for the MQM declined to comment on Ms Farooque’s resignation.

Good foresight, good move. Chances are they'll loose atleast 50% of their seats come next elections, if not get wiped out. They have earned bad reputation, always trying to tag along with ruling party in province or at the federal level. Cannot play an effective Opposition party role, to fight for common Pakistani citizens rights. Its always 'Mee Too' deals, give me ministry, give me perks, & we'll be a quiet partners. Listening to all those useless daily speeches and threats makes you sick to the stomach. Karachi is full of smart university graduates who don't want any one to insult their intelligence useless slogans. How about doing some productive work to redeem your past, open free schools for poor, free hospitals for poor or new industries to create employment?. Irum Azeem, serve poor people of your country and make a good name for yourself. Good luck whatever you do.

Good to see loyal people in a political party with a lot of potential. But sister if you leave. You will not be able to resolve the issues you have identified. Altaf Hussein is a visionary leader but he needs honest people like you to support him in his efforts.

Let me explain: She seems to be from the crowd that gets into the assembly through a backdoor - reserved set, means not electable. Carries a green card. Lives in the US for all purposes.
