GUJRANWALA: Flooding in the River Chenab, Nullah Palkho and Nullah Deg inundated hundreds of acres and houses in 20 villages in Wazirabad, Whando, Kamoki and Sohdra on Friday.

Army rescued people of the villages and shifted them to safer places.

The villages under flooding are Kot Natho, Laveriwala, Tahliwala, Rana, Maniwal Paatoki, Talwara, Ramgarh, Kot Jaffar, Merajke, Rana Bahram, Qazikot, Natherwali, Ladherwala, Virkan, Rajpura, Sadhoki Wandho and Kamoki.

The district administration has set up 15 relief centres in riverside villages.

The continuous rain wreaked havoc on the city as roads and streets were under water forcing the people to remain indoors. The railway line in Wazirabad was also under water suspending the rail traffic.

District Coordination Officer Azmat Mehmood ordered the closure of schools and colleges in the district on Saturday (today).

Gujranwala Electric Power Company chief executive Muneer Ahmad Mian ordered setting up of electricity emergency centers at all sub divisions.

ELECTRICUTED: Four people were electrocuted in Ghakar Town and Kamoki on Friday, police said.

The deceased included Mushtaq, of Adilgarh, Muhammad Afzal, of Peerkot Road, and Zafar Masih, of Zafar Colony, and Azra, of Kamoki.

Six buffaloes also died of electric shock in Kangniwala.
