ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed leaders of political parties to submit their suggestions by tomorrow to end the ongoing political stalemate during the hearing of a plea against sit-ins and extra-constitutional steps in Islamabad by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

Earlier on September 2, the apex court had issued notices to all parliamentary parties as requested by Zulfiqar Naqvi who had petitioned that all parties be summoned so that the deadlock can be resolved.

The case was heard today by a five judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk.

During the hearing, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) contended that PAT and PTI protesters had occupied the Parliament’s parking area and requested that the court issue an order for its clearance.

Meanwhile, Awami Muslim League (AML) president Sheikh Rasheed, who was representing the protesting parties, assured the court that they would come up with solutions to vacate the area of the Parliament and Pakistan Secretariat.

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali also directed Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt to submit a list of cases of financial losses during the ongoing protests.

The court, in its order, said that Rasheed should talk to the leadership of the protesting parties to persuade them to clear the Parliament premises and also directed parties to submit their suggestions in the apex court by tomorrow to resolve the deadlock.

The hearing of the case was subsequently adjourned to September 5.
