Pakistan judokas fail in Russia

Published August 31, 2014

LAHORE: All three players fielded by the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) in the World Championships in the Russian city of Chelyabinnsk were thrown out from the first round, according to information received here on Saturday.

Furthermore, Shah Hussain Shah — a gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow earlier this year — was unable to win even a single fight.

Samiullah, in the 60kg category competition, could not hold on for more than 50 seconds when he was downed by his opponent from Greece.

Similarly, Ahmad Butt in the +100kg category, lost to a player from Mongolia in a minute and 51 seconds.

The most pathetic per-formance was that of Hussain, who had dashed all the way from Japan to represent Pakistan in the -100kg category, falling to an unranked player from Canada.
