GHALANAI: Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani on Wednesday inaugurated a solar-powered tube-well in Surkha Kor area of Pandilai tehsil here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the army was extensively engaged in well-being of the tribal people. The development projects in Fata are aimed at improving the quality of life of the people, he added.

Mr Rabbani said that nine solar-powered tube-wells had been installed at a cost of Rs7 million each in various tehsils of Mohmand Agency which would benefit 200,000 people. He said that the problem of water shortage in the area would be resolved with the financial assistance of the UAE government.

The Peshawar Corps Commander urged the tribesmen to keep a close eye on the movement of anti-state elements and deny shelter to militants as peace had been restored to the area after great sacrifices offered by the tribesmen and the security forces. He said that there could be no development without peace, urging the tribesmen to extend cooperation to the security forces and uphold their collective responsibility.

Lt-Gen Rabbani said that 1,000 vacancies had been created for Fata youths and that they would also be recruited in the Frontier Corps.
