DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 19: Tehsil Nazim Dera, Fatehullah Khan Miankhel, has said Rs25 million have been allocated for the city’s development schemes, out of a total annual budget of Rs53.7 million.

Speaking at a welcome party in Behari Colony hosted by Dr Muhammad Zahid, the area councillor, he said a 41-shop plaza near Doda Haqani and another at Tijarat Ganj, had been approved. Both will be constructed on self-financed basis and leased out to generate more revenues for the municipal committee.

He said each union council will get Rs0.45 million for its own development schemes, which had been got approved by the council during its last session.

He said he was facing a strong opposition within his own ranks but was confident of running the tehsil affairs efficiently.

He said spadework for initiating the proposed schemes was at present in progress and people would benefit from them in the months ahead.

Abdul Halim Khan Qasuria, a former MPA, said it was hard luck for the former elected representatives that they could not come up to the people’s expectations. They had ample opportunities to serve their electorate.

The present LG system has almost uprooted the evil of corruption and it could be expected that the new assemblies would be confined to legislation work, he said, and went on to describe it as a “great achievement” of the Musharraf government.
