HYDERABAD: After a brief lull in target killing cases of policemen, another policeman is targeted at point blank in unit-6 Latifabad on Thursday night. This time he is a jail department’s policemen and is gunman of Hyderabad DIG prisons, Muzaffar Ali Siddiqui.

The deceased who was identified as Farhan Baig was on his way to DIG’s prison to perform his duty. He was intercepted by four gunmen near Ayesha Masjid unit-6 Latifabad on main road. He was about to take a turn when armed persons ambushed him.

Baig is said to have received three bullet injuries in his skull and was pronounced dead when taken to hospital.

DIG Muzaffar Alam Siddiqui lives in unit-6 Latifabad’s E-block hardly paces away from the scene of target killing. Police said that gunmen took away deceased’s official gun and mobile phone.

“He was wearing a bullet proof jacket and was not using helmet which he otherwise used,” said DIG prisons Siddiqui. He said that he couldn’t comment on the incident and only referred to recent target killing cases of policemen in Hyderabad, particularly Latifabad.

“I can't comment on it immediately,” Siddiqui said.

The bullet proof jacket has been found while his helmet was lying on his CG-125 motorcycle.

The DIG has served as superintendent central prison as well in the recent past.

Since November 2013, Hyderabad has witnessed a surge in policemen's target killings. After July 6, 2014 killings of three policemen in the area of A-section police station of Latifabad, this is latest targeted killing case of a policeman.

No accused is so far arrested in any target killing case by police.
