ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will induct a fuel-efficient A320 aircraft into its fleet in October.

According to official sources, the national flag carrier has already received two A320 aircraft on dry lease, increasing the number of aircraft in its operational fleet to 26.

At a ceremony held to include the second A320 aircraft in the PIA’s fleet recently, Secretary Aviation and Chairman PIA Mohammad Ali Gardezi said that the PIA was in the process of acquiring modern aircraft. He said the aim was to revive the PIA, adding that the airline was moving in the right direction.

Mr Gardezi said that with the induction of the advanced, fuel-efficient aircraft, the airline would be offering better services to passengers and at the same time benefiting in terms of fuel savings.

He said that PIA would receive the third A320 aircraft in October while one aircraft on wet lease would be inducted into its fleet this month. He expressed the hope that the PIA would have 7 to 10 more aircraft by December.
