NAROWAL, July 19: Police claimed to have killed youth near Qila Ahmadabad on Friday night who allegedly snatched a car in an encounter.

Police said the two snatched a car at gunpoint from Pasroor, Sialkot district, and drove it away towards Narowal. A message was radioed and an Ahmadabad police squad detected the vehicle and intercepted it near the village after a hot chase.

They claimed that the car-jackers opened fire on the police party. Both the youth, identified as Nadeem and Khadim Husain, of Sodian village in Pasroor tehsil, were killed when police returned the fire while constables Ashraf and Afzal suffered bullet injuries.

The police also recovered a Kalashnikov and a pistol with many rounds from the possession of dacoits besides the snatched car (GAL-4286).

One of Nadeem’s uncles, Abdul Rashid, told this scribe his nephew and his friend were not robbers. They were driving the car owned by one of Nadeem’s friends. He claimed that police have killed the youth in unnecessary haste.
