ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has cancelled leaves of all employees of sanitation, environment and the disaster management departments on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

Usually the staff of environment wing, especially the gardeners and those posted in the large parks and other picnic spots of the city are called on duty on such festivities.

However, in view of the security situation the CDA has decided to cancel the leaves of all employees in the emergency and disaster management department, including the fire department.

Besides, the staff of Flood Relief Cell would remain on duty round the clock to meet any eventuality due to heavy rains and also drain rainwater from the roads.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Friday with the CDA chairman, Maroof Afzal, in the chair. The meeting was attended by the members and other senior officials.

“Apart from proper sanitation system in Islamabad the meeting reviewed the water supply situation in the city,” the spokesman for the CDA, Asim Khichi, told Dawn.

The formations concerned of the authority have been directed to deploy the sanitation staff for cleaning the city during Eidul Fitr.

He said special sanitation teams would clean the surrounding areas of Masajid before Eid congregations. He also directed the environment staff for trimming and removing wild grass, bushes and shrubs.

It was noted that there was no water shortage in the city as water was available in abundance due to recent monsoon rains, and water tanker fleet needed to be vigilant in coming days to meet the requirements of the citizens.

It has been decided that Director General Civic Management and Director General Water Management would visit different sectors and inspect the arrangement about the sanitation and water supply.

CDA has also given its Helpline-1334 and the telephone number 9213908 for the residents to lodge their sanitation related complaints.
