KARACHI: A police official lost his life and a suspected militant involved in sectarian killings was arrested in an encounter in New Karachi industrial area on Wednesday night.

Additional IGP Ghulam Qadir Thebo said that the police raided a place near Godhra Camp on an information about the presence of militants belonging to the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and arrested one Umer Farooq involved in recent killing of four persons, including a lawyer and the son-in-law of Allama Talib Jauhari. However, his accomplices resorted to firing on the police party, which resulted in the death of ASI Abdul Jabbar.

The city police chief claimed that the arrested man was the main suspect behind sectarian killings in the city.
