The much anticipated first trailer of Humaima Malik's upcoming Bollywood debut, Raja Natwarlal is out, and boy are we impressed.
The nearly three-minute promo promises a blend of several themes - love, lust, money and revenge - with a catchy background score and eye-candy that gets a thumbs up from us.

The story revolves around a small town conman Raja (Emraan Hashmi), who does everything in his power to swindle big fish and win the favour of his love interest Jiya (Humaima Malik) in every possible way. And for the 'serial-kisser' who has smooched his way from Murder to Jannat – Emraan's latest flick also contains at least one scene where he is seen kissing a coy Humaima.

The first half of the trailer shows Raja trying to live his dream and become the world's biggest fraudster. Here, the trailer also brings some witty conman dialogue, such as "Life iss paise ki tarah hai, bus ek baar kharch kar pao ge."
But even Emraan's high-energy street dance number could not take the limelight from the sizzling Humaima.

Playing the lady love in Raja's life, Humaima appears to have mastered the art of being a desirable, sultry damsel. Her smouldering looks coupled with ghagra cholis that fit her perfect figure like a glove, Humaima seems to have nailed the Bollywood heroine charm.
The second half of the trailer introduces two more leads with fantastic Bollywood actors Paresh Rawal (Raja's scheming guru) and Kay Kay Menon (the bad guy) whom he cons into selling a fake cricket team.
Here we see the talented Humaima unleash the Bol protagonist, when she pleads in an emotional outburst with Raja to tread carefully.
If beautiful Humaima and romantic Emraan aren't reasons enough to watch this flick – which is slated for August 29 – the music, action-packed plot and stellar supporting cast should help you decide in its favour.

In Bollywood movies, the female lead is limited to 15 - 20 mins of screen time and if you fast forward the songs, you will not even notice the female lead is there. Maybe it is big thing for Pakistan, that a female actress is in leading Bollywood film, but it looks like Masala entertainer where the female lead is only going to be in item numbers.
Good luck to her anyways, but because of India movie mindset, there are very few quality actress coming out of India sine majority of the females focus on item numbers rather than acting

Yaar, kia masla hai. Now they even promote the trailer of the movie like it is some type of work of art. The critic/reviewer should wait for the movie to come out and then enlighten people with his astute analysis. Dawn has highlighted this as a major article. What the heck happened to journalistic standards at this paper?

India has never had a shortage of talented actresses who anchored their films since before independence. History includes Nargis (Mother India), Meena Kumari in dozens of films, Rekha (Umrao Jaan), Bhanumathi (acted, sang and directed Chandirani), Aishwariya Rai (Guru), and Vidya Baalan (Kahaani, Bobby Jasoos).
Tamil movies certainly offer even more women-oriented films. Not unusual in India for an actress to get the top billing, say, Rakhee over Amitabh Bacchan.
May be your viewing is restricted to watching stars like Salman and Shahrukh.

@Farooq : More than Indian mindset, I woud call it a sub continental mindset (Indian-Pakistani-Bangladeshi-Afghan etc). From what I understand, Pakistani movies are even worse in this regard, at least there are quite a few Indian movies made every year in which the female is the lead or as important as the male!

You could expect Emran Hashmi to be exactly that - Emran Hashmi... Bit I rated Humaima very highly after Bol. Even to the extent that perhaps we had another Uzma Gillani , Rohi Bano or Khalda Riyast amongst our amidst. But the this appears to be a far cry from highly intricate characters she has played in Akbari Asghari and Bol. The shallowness in the characters is apparent from the liplock scene in her first movie. A bust for me - both the movie and the actress.

Humaima- such a waste of talent and persona. Whatever greatness she has achieved through a class act film like 'Bol' is going to nothing. if you compare the two films 'Bol' and this ' Whoever Raja' it can aptly be called 'from sublime to the ridiculous'.
Hope she rediscovers her real talent in no time and find a perfect match of 'art and commercial' cinema. Right now there are two many grey areas.

Pakistani actors are so talented, why do you guys opt for "B" Grade Indian movies? Your top actress should not accept anything less than a leading role with the big Khans or Ranbir or Ranvir. Why do you guys accept to act in Emraan Hashmi movies? You guys stoop too low. Same with your male actors. Come on, don't act until India gives you respect where your BIG actors work with India's BIG actors.

I follow Dawn online being in Chicago since it has long offered objective and trust worthy news coverage. Seeing the trailer for this typically shallow Bollywood movie was very unsightly, and left a bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, instead of trying to prove grace and beauty in a respectful manner that jives with Islamic and Pakistani tradition, it's sad to say that Pakistani media women are resorting to these cheap tricks to gain a spot in the Bollywood limelight. Truly saddened.

Women from an Islamic republic showing plenty of flesh to entertain the sub continental souls. What a shame, what a pity. Its not fame rather its shame. Its a bad example. If she is a good actress, she should concentrate on acting rather then performing in item numbers. Her current movie trailer is apparantly establishing a bad precedent for other aspiring actresses from our beloved country by setting a bad example.
They way the Indian movies and dramas have carved their way inside the Pakistani homes and the way they were and are promoting the Indian culture, a generation has brought up with a specific mind set. It was only a metter of time and bound to happen. Sonia Gandhi's cultural war is showing its results going in her favour.
May Allah protect us all from the devastation and his wrath.

I would love to see our actors in a Bollywood movie for their talent. I had a great respect for Humaima in BOL. But now she seems to be standing in line with with other gaudy, over painted, glamour actresses.
Humaima is one in a million in Pakistan but for Bollywood she is one in a hundred. I don't understand what she can do that other Indian actresses cant.

I am not sure if this is going to be published. But i find it funny to read so many comments trashing the Hindi films when Pakistan doesn't have a decent movie industry to speak of and 80% of movies halls exist today because of Hindi movies. A couple good movies like "bol" come out and you guys keep talking about it, forgetting all about the Z grade movies produced by your so called movie Industry. Bollywood makes way better movies than that every year. Movies like Lunchbox, Bhaag Milka Bhaag, English Vinglish were great movies. And these are just a drop in the ocean, amazing movies are made all across India in different languages. Also masala movies need to be hit for the studios to have money to invest in small and thoughtful movies. Its just pure economics. Movies like Transformers ( however bad ) needs to make money so that big studios can make movies like Lincoln and Dallas Buyers club. And people saying that Hindi movies are copies of some non descript Korean should just not comment here and be content watching those Korean movies. All the best watching those movies.
Movies everywhere are male-dominated( here and in the west), am not saying thats the right thing but thats the truth. Couple of movies here and there having a female central character won't change it. Your girl has got a good chance with decent actor in the movie, all you guys are doing is bad mouthing Bollywood instead of wishing her the best. And please stop talking about culture this and culture that. If you are culturally and morally strong, you will not be swayed by movies. These are fiction, remember dummy.

@Nomz Every movie is a copy of some movie in some way or the other. Copy or no copy do you expect south Asian viewer to go and watch a Korean movie instead. If some liked a movie, picked up an idea gave it an Indian touch and came out with an excellent movie, what is the big deal. It is not that there aren't movies made originating from original ideas. When movies get made in 1000s you can't expect many original ideas.
