LAHORE, July 15: The Punjab government is reportedly surrendering to the federal government three police DIGs, two of whom will be posted in the Intelligence Bureau.

They are DIG (training) Azhar Hassan Nadeem, DIG (traffic) Hameed Aslam Malik and DIG (Punjab Constabulary) Tahir Anwar Pasha. Mr Nadeem and Mr Malik have recently been promoted to BS-21.

The three officers are likely to be replaced by OSD Salahuddin Niazi, who has recently been sent to the province by the federal government, OSD Shamsul Hassan Shams (also Sargodha’s ex-DIG), and DIG Shafique Fazal. They were expected to report to the Punjab in the near future, sources said on Tuesday.

Mr Niazi has thrice served in the Punjab as the DIG headquarters.

The sources claimed that OSD Jehangir Mirza, serving in BS-21, was also recently sent to the province and might proceed on leave. Therefore, he was not being considered for any posting at the moment, they added.

Meanwhile, the recently constituted board in the Punjab police will meet on July 21 under IGP Masood Shah to consider the promotion cases of DSPs. There are 14 posts of the SPs for which over 40 DSPs are contesting.
