PESHAWAR, July 15: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has directed to speed up the pace of work on Rs2.29 billion Peshawar Master Plan.

Presiding over a high level meeting to discuss various projects being executed under Peshawar Master Plan by City Development and Municipal Department (CDMD) at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Monday, he said that the physical work seemed to be slowing down.

Mr Durrani said that the government would not go easy on the process of implementation as it was an important plan.

He observed that being a provincial metropolis its roads, bridges, buildings, parks and other centres of civic amenities ought to be of good standard.

Projects such as improvement, widening and beautification of Goregathri, Rahman Baba Square, Warsak Road, G. T. Road, Jamrud Road, Khyber Road, Kabul River Canal, ring road projects, mental hospital, SOS village and other allied projects were taken up for debate and the pace of work was reviewed.

Mr Durrani said his government would make all out efforts for the beautification of the historical city and restoration of its lost grandeur.

The condition of roads in the down town was bad, he said adding that the unruly and disorganized traffic flow was adding to the problems of the citizens and trading community.

The chief minister said that he would pay a detailed visit to the city soon to see and assess the development process.—APP
