KARACHI: Unknown pedigree bay colt Sher Dil justified his credentials by capturing the Kings Stud Farm Cup in his third triumph on the trot in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse here on Sunday.

Owned by Syed Ali Gohar Shah and trained by Manzoor Baran, Sher Dil won by 11 lengths in a start-to-finish bid with rider M. Manzoor astride.

The victorious horse which was installed as favourite, after the punters have put their money on Camelot, got the better of bay horse Janisar as Camelot finished third, two lengths behind. Great Man completed the board among eight starters.

Public fancy four-year-old dark bay filly Snow Fairy produced an eye-catching performance to land the Kingree Lodge Farm Cup.

Rider Ashiq Ali piloted the filly home to a facile 13-length victory over Jal Pari to make amends for last defeat at the hands of Mujahid earlier this month. Mujahid was withdrawn before the days fourth and last race.

Urban Lady was placed third half-a-length away while The Destroyer completed the frame finishing 10 lengths further away.

Six-year-old bay mare Capri pulled off the only upset of the day when she prevailed over mare Pampas Grass by three-quarter-of-a-length to lift the Emirates Farm Cup. Filly Maina was placed third while favourite filly Princess Chakwal had to be content with fourth place.

At the outset, colt Bugash Bugash edged Sugar Inn by distance in a close finish to pick up spoils in the opener in which five of the eight horses made their debut.

Two riders — Riaz Ahmed (Grey Rose) and Pervez Ali (Fly Free) — were suspended for two weeks and fined Rs5,000 apiece. Debutant Grey Rose finished fourth while debutant Fly Free finished off the board.

Trainer Mujahid Ali excelled and sent two winners — Capri and Snow Fairy.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Saturday.
