VEHARI, July 13: At least 15 people were injured and around 20 mud houses collapsed when heavy rain lashed town and its surrounding areas here on Sunday.

The heavy rain inundated low-lying areas and choked town’s sewerage system besides suspending the power supply.

In Thingi area, the roof of a mud house caved in causing serious injuries to four people, including two women. They were admitted to a local hospital.

The downpour flooded Pirmurad, Danywal, Masani Bagh, College Town, 9-11/WB, Peoples Colony, Jhingi Colony, Piply Adda and Muslim Town localities. Several mud houses collapsed in Pirmurad, Muslim Town, and 9-11/WB, leaving at least 11 people injured. The injured include Akram, Abbas Ali, Shabbir Ahmad, Akbar Ali, Ashiq, Ilyas, Naveed, Allah Rakha and Ghulam Rasool.

The College Town and Muslim Town telephone networks were badly affected. In 9-11/WB area, people confined to their homes the whole day because the rain water entered their houses.

The local Tehsil Municipal Administration failed to make any arrangement for draining out the rain water.
